The Commonwealth Chaplaincy Program may not be against the Constitution as such but the Commonwealth Government is definitely promoting a religion, namely the Christian religion.
Julia and Tony are proselytising a religion with all the power of our ’secular’ government, this is wrong in so many ways.
It is notable that this religion grew from the religions used by the Middle Eastern war lords of the bronze age.
The main tenant of this religion is that the human subject is unworthy and inferior, and the subject has to say he is a sinner even before he can be accepted in the religion.
Christianity promotes low self esteem causing paranoia with the imposed belief that you are being constantly watched by a superior being.
This attitude is being taught to your children and encouraged by the chaplaincy program.
This is not a good way to bring your children up feeling they have low self worth and not worthy of human rights.

It is even worse for children finding they are attracted to people of the same sex – Your friendly neighbourhood Chaplain would have to condemn of homosexuality because that is his religious belief.
Can you say this is good for pubescent children and young adults?
Let us just train some youth workers so we can have mentally balanced healthy children.

Why do we need a Secular Party?

Some 31 people are running for Federal Parliament on the Secular Party of Australia ticket in this election, but why has secularism become an issue in the early part of this century?

Why has the revelation of Julia Gillard’s lack of belief become a point of interest this year when the beliefs of Gough Whitlam, Malcolm Fraser or even Bill Hayden who became our Governor General were not.

Only Since John Howard took the reigns the issue of the faith of our politicians has seemed to come to the fore.

We can of course argue that the influence of the religious right in the US influenced this era.

It may also be just a coincidence or the uprising of faith based politicians.

In the days of John Howard we were surprised to learn he was talking with the leaders of the Exclusive Brethren, a Church which doesn’t allow it’s members to vote but receives tax payers money to run it’s schools.

Then we move to Kevin Rudd who made a point of extolling his church going and association with the Anglican Christian Lobby.

His door stop interviews invariably occurred as he and his wife were leaving church each week.

Our federal Parliament begins every day with ‘the Lord’s Prayer’ and has a Chaplain in case one of our Christian Politicians has a religious crisis.

There is also the Parliamentary Christian Network and the meditation room is more often than not used as a place for these people to meet.

Where has our separation of church and state gone?

The religion that the religious lobbyists like to say our government is based on is in fact a bronze age belief created, supported and run on a war-lord system which is still prevalent in the Middle East today.

This may sound flippant but this is the crux of the secular form of government, there should be only one governing body.

In the day of monarchy the religion was the religion of the Monarch and by force the people.

In today’s terms we should all be members of the Church of England and Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists would be put to death or as in the case of North Korea put into internment camps.

We need to preserve the secular nature of our Government and allow our politicians to be any religion they may choose or not as the case may be.

I have my doubts that this is being upheld in some of our state governments and I am worried that our Federal Government is heading towards a push to a single religion state.

The emergence of the Secular Party of Australia is a reaction to this well founded fear.

Why vote for a minor party?

Both Labor and Liberal are entrenched and are chasing your vote just so they can keep their jobs.
The smaller parties can identify issues the major parties overlook because they have lost touch with their roots.

It is natural for the voters of a country to swing from socialist to capitalist but not to swing from secular to religious eroding the gap between church and state.

Secular is neither right nor left as there are ‘believers’ on both sides of the political fence.

However both sides of the current political fence are tending toward theocracy.

There has been a subtle shift orchestrated by organisations such as the Lyons Forum, National Civic Council, Endeavour Forum and the Salt Shakers whose aim it is to make our government policies become Christian centric.

If voters put The Secular Party first on their ballot papers in sufficient numbers the successful majority party will have to acknowledge that the people of this country are concerned by the rising influence of religion on government policy.

The ACT has had its Bill of Rights and the Same Sex Marriage legislation over turned by the Federal Parliament. I sport Self Determination for the ACT government.

About Quintin Hedges-Phillips

I have spent my live in employment having had a broken education and been self sufficient from the age of 18.
I had trouble trying to buy a house in teh ’90’s when the interest rates were in their teens and suffered when my places of employment went into receivership.
I therefore can identify with those less fortunate of us going through hard times without golden parachutes to fall back on.

With this background I find the Secular Parties policies are in tune with the people. Specifically for Canberra I would push for a Light Rail system to set an example, reduce the pecuniary burden on commuters and address the carbon emissions and air pollution issues of Australia’s Capital City.
I would also push to the ACT to become self determining. The Federal Government has already shown its non secular face by vetoing the ACT’s Bill of Rights and same-sex marriage legislation.

The Policies of the Secular Party in brief are…
•	The Secular Party promotes the abolition of the tax-exempt status of religious organisations and their business concerns, to the extent that the financial benefits arising are used for other than bona fide public benefit charitable purposes. It is estimated that this would provide an additional $31 billion in tax revenue per annum, money that could be spent on health, education, public transport, police and the reduction of the current deficit.
•	The Secular Party supports equal rights for gays and lesbians, including same-sex marriage and same-sex parenting.
•	The Secular Party wishes to remove government funding for non-government schools, to the extent that funding per student exceeds the marginal cost per student in the public system.
•	The Secular Party wishes to replace the National Schools Chaplaincy Program with a similar program providing qualified counsellors to schools.
•	The Secular Party supports voluntary euthanasia.
•	The Secular Party opposes the introduction of internet censorship.
